PRESS RELEASE ON THE MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING BETWEEN THE .KE AND .NG REGISTRIES

On Tuesday 24th January 2017 at Villa Rosa Kempinski, Nairobi, Kenya, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between the Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NiRA), the managers of .ng Country Top Level Domain (ccTLD) and the Kenya Network Information Centre (KeNIC), the managers of .ke ccTLD.  

The NiRA President, Reverend Sunday A Folayan, signed on behalf of the .ng Registry whilst Mr. Abdalla Omari, the CEO, KeNIC signed on behalf of the .ke Registry. 

The MOU specifies the mutual rights and obligations of the Parties to foster a working Registry Relationship to enable Accredited Registrars under both Registries to provide Registrar services and associated services for prospective applicants/registrant.

PRESS RELEASE ON THE MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING BETWEEN AFRINIC AND THE NIRA ACADEMY -31st JANUARY 2017

The African Network Information Center (AFRINIC) Ltd, one of the world’s five Regional Internet Registries (RIRs) and the Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NiRA) Academy, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Tuesday 24th January 2017 in Nairobi, Kenya, to develop and certify skills in Internet Number Resources Management and IPv6 in Nigeria. 

Mr. Sikiru A Shehu, the Dean of NIRA Academy signed on behalf of NiRA whilst Mr. Alan P. Barrett, CEO, AFRINIC LTD signed on behalf of AFRINIC.

NiRA 2017 .ng AWARDS

The .ng string is a critical National resource and Nigeria’s unique identity on the World Wide Web. NiRA, as an Industry-led stakeholder organization, is the registry for Nigerian Internet Domain Names (.ng), and maintains the database of names registered in the .ng country code Top Level Domain (ccTLD) name space in the interest of Nigerians and the global Internet community.

Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NiRA)

Nigeria Internet Registration Association, (NiRA) was established on 28th March 2006 when stakeholders within the Nigerian Internet Industry got together to adopt its constitution, under the stewardship of an Interim Board of Trustees (iBoT).

The iBoT thereafter conducted an election that day, and the Pioneer Board of Trustees (BoT) was elected, with Dr. Isaac Odeyemi as the Chairman of the BoT. The current Chair of the BoT is Deacon Chima Onyekwere, OON.

The BoT thereafter conducted elections for the Pioneer Executive Board (EBoD), with the late Engr Ndukwe Kalu being elected as the Pioneer President of NiRA. The late Kalu was succeeded by Mrs Mary Uduma, our immediate Past President who completed her term of office in 2015. The current President of NIRA is Reverend Sunday Folayan.

The transfer of the appropriate management of the .ng National Resource was coordinated by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) on behalf of the Federal government of Nigeria.  

NIRA, the leading Country Code Top Level Domain Name Registry in West Africa, is proud to celebrate a decade of managing Nigeria's critical national resource and identity flagship on the Internet, the .ng name string.

Today, NiRA Represented by the Current Chairman Board of Trustees, Deacon Chinma Onyekwere and the President, Executive Board of Director, Reverend Sunday Folayan, announce the commencement of NiRA’s 10th year anniversary with this press conference. THE ICANN DNSSEC ROADSHOW TRAIN BERTHS IN LAGOS, NIGERIA

Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NIRA), managers of Nigeria’s country code Top Level Domain, .ng has announced that it will hold a 3-day Workshop on Domain Name System Security Extensions, otherwise known as DNSSEC in collaboration with Internet Corporation for Assigned names and Numbers. The event which is tagged DNSSEC Roadshow is scheduled for Wednesday 26th to Friday, 28th June, 2013, at the Digital Bridge Institute, Cappa, Oshodi , Lagos (formerly NITEL Training School).
