NITDA WEBINAR ON CYBERSECURITY IMPACT ON NIGERIA GOVERNMENT AGENCIES HELD ON 22ND JULY, 2020

The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) in partnership with Africa's emerging cybersecurity value-added distributor (VAD),  Spire Solutions organised a webinar on the 22nd July 2020 on Cybersecurity impact on Nigeria Government Agencies and IT Cybersecurity Professionals in Nigeria. The theme of the webinar was titled “Back to Basics - COVID-19 & Critical Security Controls’’.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, several Nigerian Government Agencies (MDAs, parastatals etc) and critical National Infrastructure Organizations have depended heavily on technology and many have also implemented a 'Work from home (WFH)' policy to ensure business continuity. Cybercriminals are trying to take advantage of the situation by launching different types of cyber-attacks. So it became extremely important to create awareness of such Cybersecurity risks/challenges and educate the staff of the Agencies on some basic security control measures that can help protect the organisations by enabling them to detect and mitigate possible risks.

The webinar highlighted the risks brought about by the WFH and also provided the checklist for Cybersafety.

Mallam Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, the Director-General, National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), stated that NITDA as a responsible agency lives up to expectation by providing Nigerians with advisory notes on these incidences. Where the Agency carries out periodic awareness programs to enlighten Nigerians on the dos and don’ts in the cyberspace.

Mallam Abdullahi concluded that securing cyberspace is a prerequisite to a robust digital economy championed by the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy under the leadership of Dr Isa Ali Ibrahim (Pantami). Therefore he implored all Nigerians to be vigilant while doing their activities online.
