FEDERAL GOVERNMENT APPRECIATES ACTIVE PARTICIPATION IN THE DIAMOND JUBILEE CHALLENGE

On the 1st of October 2020, Nigeria will celebrate her diamond jubilee, 60 years of independence. The theme for the celebration is “Together as one”. The Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) under the Leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari GCFR, approved an inclusive National Independence Celebration program. The FGN wants to use the opportunity to harness the power of Nigeria’s creative minds by fostering a new brand identity around the anniversary theme which will be celebrated in the public space for one year.

Dr. Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, FNCS, FBCS, FIIM, the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy and with the support of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Nigeria launched the Nigeria@60 Challenge.

The challenge included selecting the best slogan, the best poem and the best photograph that embodies the theme "Together as one". The best concepts from each category of the challenge were selected by a combination of several assessment criteria including review by a jury. The voting for the best logo closed on the 15th September 2020.

According to Dr. Isa Ali Ibrahim (Pantami), Minister of Communications and Digital Economy: As part of the efforts to make Nigeria a digital economy and in accordance with restrictions necessitated by the current COVID-19 Pandemic, the entire event with the exception of the demo day will hold remotely via an online portal. This is to ensure safer execution.

On the 16th of September 2020, President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, launched and unveiled the anniversary logo that was earlier presented to the public virtually. Mr President, while unveiling the Anniversary Logo, appreciated Nigerians for their active participation. He also reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment in ensuring that citizens are actively involved in the development and implementation of Government policies, programmes and projects. The selection process for all aspects of the Challenge was still ongoing and results would be announced as soon as the process was complete.
