On Thursday 26th November 2020, NiRA President, Mr Muhammed Rudman was a guest at Hot FM 93.3 Lagos, speaking during a live interview session on Financial Matters hosted by Williams Uzomba of Connect Nigeria.

Mr. Rudman spoke on the .ng brand and Nigerian online identity for individuals and companies. For any business to be available on the Internet, the company must have a domain name to be visible on the internet.

Mr. Rudman spoke on the importance of using local domain names and hosting websites locally and the financial and job loss when Nigerian businesses host their websites outside the shores of Nigeria. He mentioned that the Federal Government of Nigeria has addressed the problems of Nigerian businesses hosting the websites abroad in the Nigerian National Broadband Plan 2020 -2025 (NNBP 2020-2025). He informed that since the government can not compel companies to host their websites locally, the government intends to lead by example by ensuring all government websites are hosted locally.

Mr. Rudman spoke of how NiRA intends to encourage local hosting of websites. He spoke of the planned collaboration of NITDA/CAC/NiRA to ensure that all newly registered companies with CAC will for the first year of its existence have a free domain name and free local hosting of its website for a year. With this opportunity, these companies will appreciate the hosting of their service locally.

Mr. Rudman as the Chief Executive Officer of the Internet Exchange Point of Nigeria (IXPN), stated that all the telecommunications companies in Nigeria are interconnected, all the GSM operators are interconnected, and all the major service providers are connected. The major big players who are the content providers such as Facebook, Google, and Microsoft are all connected at the Internet Exchange Point of Nigeria (IXPN). During the interview, Mr. Rudman disabused concerns that .ng domain names are expensive. Mr. Rudman explained that the price of .com is about $10 which when converted is between  ₦4,000.00 to ₦5,000.00, while a domain can be as low as ₦1,000.00 to ₦1,500.00.  At the time of the interview, NiRA was running a .ng promo, with the cost of a .ng second-level domain name being N4,800.00. He encouraged all to use the .ng domain name, stating that with increase in the number of .ng domain name registrations at the second level, the price of .ng domain names will drop as NiRA is a not- for- Profit organization. The reality being that .ng  and domain names are cheaper than the gTLD domain names.
