PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

It has been an eventful year for all concerned at the Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NiRA). In many ways, the previous quarters moved us closer to our goal of increasing the adoption of the .ng domain name. This final quarter provides a time to reflect on our accomplishments thus far, consolidate our victories, and raise the bar in our attempts to end the year on a high note. To be honest, we’re still behind on some of our objectives, the most important of which is to expand the number of domain name registrations. We know it’s feasible, and we are working hard to make it happen. The final lap of 2021 challenges us to step up our efforts, broaden our network, and push the association’s vision all the way to the year’s end.

We attended many events last month in keeping with our practice of planning, sponsoring, and participating in activities and programmes that raise awareness and enhance the prominence of the.ng domain brand as a household name in Nigeria. NiRA was present at the Gulf Information Technology Exhibition (GITEX) in Dubai, UAE, from October 17 to 21, 2021, in addition to other contributions to events. NiRA also spoke at the Centre for Information Technology and Development’s (CITAD) Kano Social Influencers Summit on October 27th and 28th, 2021. At the end of this month, NiRA will be hosting the training of Web Administrators of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies of the Federal Government in support of the Bureau of Public Service Reforms’ efforts in the Federal Civil Service. NiRA is also a member of the jury for the ranking of the websites of MDA’s.

It is worth noting that the Central Bank of Nigeria adopted the .ng domain name for e-naira (enaira.gov.ng) over foreign domain extensions as a direct result of the efforts of Members of NiRA’s Board of Trustees and Executive Board of Directors to engage effectively within national discourse. We intend to continue building the brand and ensuring that it promotes the association’s goals, stimulates Nigerians’ creative and entrepreneurial drive, and contributes its fair share to the country’s digital economy.

Thank you for your continued partnership and support. Please continue to keep safe.

Kind regards,

Muhammed Rudman

President, NiRA.
