NITDA CHARGES INDIGENOUS COMPUTER MAKERS ON QUALITY, AFTER-SALES-SUPPORT

The Director-General/CEO of National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Mallam Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi had called on the Certified Computer Manufacturers of Nigeria (CCMON) to improve in the quality and synergy to ensure devices meet the minimum requirements and that OEMs ensure sufficient after-sales-support of these devices.

This call was made on the 3rd July 2020 during a virtual meeting held between National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and Certified Computer Manufacturers of Nigeria (CCMON) to discuss issues affecting the increasing adoption of indigenously assembled devices in Nigeria and possible ways of moving the country’s ICT hardware sub-sector of the economy forward through the adequate implementation of local content policy.

CCMON, through the President, Engr Adenike Abudu, had stated that patronage for indigenous OEMS from government agencies was still low and solicited for assistance in this regard from NITDA. The patronage of local OEMs will assist in job creation in Nigeria and help Nigerian businesses thrive in this challenging industry.

Mallam Abdullahi commended CCMON for its partnership with NITDA as a critical stakeholder for Nigerian Content Development in ICT and highlighted the need for them to be competitive in terms of price. NITDA responded that it was engaging the government agencies to patronize the local OEMs. The OEMs were encouraged to do their marketing and promote their products.

Further discussions were held on the certification requirements of NITDA, quality of devices, stock availability, after-sales-support, the need for a streamlined specification of devices and the need to deepen business development and marketing.
