Reseller entrepreneurship provides individuals and entrepreneurs with a valuable entry point into the online business space, enabling them to tap into the growing potential of the .ng domain market as resellers.
The .ng domain is more than just a web address—it is Nigeria’s digital identity and a strategic asset for businesses, entrepreneurs, and individuals looking to establish an authentic online presence. Recently, the Reseller Entrepreneurship Training Programme brought together industry professionals, founders, and accredited registrars to spotlight the opportunities within Nigeria’s domain name ecosystem. The focus was not only on the profit potential of becoming a .ng reseller but also on the broader value of digital ownership and national economic growth.
The Value of the .ng Domain Beyond Profit
Opening the program, the Chief Operating Officer of NiRA, Seyi Onasanya, emphasized the role of the .ng domain as digital infrastructure for Nigeria’s independence online. She noted: “Being online is about ownership. It means taking control of your digital identity and shaping how the world sees you online.” This perspective reframes the .ng domain as more than a commercial opportunity — it is a cornerstone of digital sovereignty.
Further underscoring this point, Gbemisola Esho, Founder of Connecttobridge, explained: “The .ng domain is more than an address. It’s where Nigerian creativity meets global visibility.” These insights highlight that the .ng domain is about identity, trust, and representation, not just business.
Business Opportunities in the .ng Domain
The reseller program also highlighted the entrepreneurship potential within the .ng domain space.
Tinuade Oguntyuyi, Founder of Tinuadeniyi Tech Foundation, stressed the value-creation aspect of reselling: “Becoming a .ng reseller isn’t just a business move; it’s a chance to create value by helping more Nigerians build their digital identity online.”
Mr. Agim Ikwen, CEO of Webguru Limited and an accredited registrar, described domains as digital real estate — critical for local credibility, trust, and economic growth. He identified SMEs, NGOs, government agencies, startups, and even the diaspora as key demand drivers for .ng domains.
He also emphasized the importance of retaining value within the economy:
“If you buy a .ng domain, your naira stays in Nigeria; if you buy .com, your naira leaves the country.”
This was further tied to the reality that Nigeria has over 40 million MSMEs, but only a fraction have established a digital presence. Compared with countries like South Africa, the UK, and Canada, Nigeria’s online penetration among small businesses is still low. This creates a massive untapped market for resellers and highlights the need for collaboration among stakeholders like the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), SMEDAN, other private entities, and NiRA to accelerate Nigeria’s digital economy and ensure more businesses are visible and identifiable online.
Spotting Market Opportunities as a Domain Reseller
Omotola Olaseni, COO of Go54, an accredited registrar, addressed participants on growing their reseller markets. She noted that there is an expanding segment of entrepreneurs and small businesses that need affordable, low-maintenance online solutions. Resellers can support these groups while also spotting high-demand domains based on market trends and future value.
She reminded participants that while social media profiles are essential, they do not equate to ownership of online presence. A website built on a .ng domain gives individuals, businesses, and organizations accurate control over their brand identity and a permanent home in the digital economy.
The reseller entrepreneurship programme also explored other areas such as understanding the DNS, data privacy, and compliance. These sessions introduced participants to the DNS industry, informed them about our privacy policies, the measures in place to protect users, and the need for compliance.
As Nigeria continues its digital transformation, the .ng domain is both an opportunity and a responsibility — a chance to shape how Nigerians are represented online while unlocking sustainable business models for entrepreneurs.
