The ICANN 84 Annual General Meeting, held in Dublin, Ireland, from October 25th to 30th, 2025, brought together ccTLD managers, fellows, and global internet stakeholders to discuss the future of the internet, digital identity, and registry innovation. The .ng team was at ICANN 84, and the delegates present included Mr. Adesola Akinsanya, President, NiRA; Mr. Murtala Abdullahi, Vice President; Mrs. Seyi Onasanya, Chief Operating Officer; and Mr. Habeeb Wahab, Head, Technical Services.
The .ng Registry had a presentation for the ccTLD News Session of ICANN 84, which the NiRA President, Mr. Adesola Akinsanya, opened with key updates on the registry’s progress and initiatives that reflect NiRA’s ongoing commitment to advancing Nigeria’s digital identity and strengthening the nation’s internet ecosystem.
Key Highlights from the .ng Registry Presentation
1️⃣ Automation of Registrar Accreditation
NiRA successfully implemented an automated registrar accreditation portal, streamlining the end-to-end process from application to accreditation and onboarding. This innovation enhances operational efficiency and delivers a more seamless experience for registrars within the DNS ecosystem.
2️⃣ Tech Convergence Platform
The Tech Convergence initiative continues to serve as a strategic platform that unites stakeholders across Nigeria’s digital economy. It promotes digital identity adoption through the .ng domain, recognizing that a strong national online identity is fundamental to sustainable digital growth and inclusion.
3️⃣ .ng Academy Learning Management System (LMS)
The .ng Academy LMS was launched to build sustainable skill capacity within Nigeria’s DNS industry. Through this platform, NiRA empowers professionals and stakeholders with the knowledge and technical expertise needed to strengthen the nation’s digital infrastructure.
Other Key Implementations so far
- WHOIS Redaction Privacy (implemented in June 2025): Aligns with global standards to protect registrant privacy and enhance data protection across the registry.
- Registrar Incentive Model: A strategic initiative designed to foster stronger collaboration between the registry and accredited registrars by incentivizing performance and growth in line with established guidelines.
