Dear Valued Readers,
As we reflect on NiRA’s journey in 2023, it brings immense pleasure to share the remarkable strides we’ve made in advancing Nigeria’s digital landscape. Serving as the custodians of the .ng domain, our role has been pivotal, underscored by strategic partnerships and the unwavering dedication of our secretariat to advancing Nigeria’s internet landscape.
From the outset of my tenure as President, a central pillar of our mission has been to fortify NiRA’s presence and expand its influence in the digital landscape. A key strategy to realise this vision was to cultivate significant collaborations. Throughout the year, we actively connected with organisations and institutions that play a pivotal role in shaping the landscape of the Nigerian internet, both on the local and international fronts. We established partnerships with key organisations such as the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), and the Innovation Support Network (ISN) Hubs, Lagos Innovates, Fate Foundation, and many others whose activities are crucial to driving the Nigerian digital economy forward. Another pivotal measure in expanding our influence was the successful hosting of the 6th .NG Awards this year. This event served as a pivotal platform to recognize and celebrate organisations on the .ng domain, lauding their noteworthy contributions to the Nigerian internet space through innovative initiatives.
NiRA’s dedication to digital innovation manifested through the sponsorship of technology-driven events that spotlighted the pivotal role of the internet. From supporting grassroots initiatives to endorsing events like the Junior Chamber International Brand Identity, Fate Foundation Alumni Conference (8th Edition), Tech Na Media by the Federal Polytechnic Nekede in Imo State, and the ISN Hubs Annual General Meeting 2023, we consistently demonstrated our dedication to how the internet is a pivotal tool to driving innovation.
In a bid to enhance our engagement with accredited registrars, we prioritised fortifying the Registrar-Registry relationship. This initiative led to the recruitment of a Registrar Relationship Manager, a strategic move aimed at enhancing efficiency and communication with our valued accredited registrars.
Leveraging the .NG Academy and the Ndukwe Kalu Foundation, our Special Purpose Vehicles, we intensified digital space activities within Nigeria and the African continent. The Academy spearheaded digital transformation initiatives, including cybersecurity training for EFCC and other government agencies, collaborative ventures with Mutual Benefits Assurance, and cybersecurity training for undergraduates in partnership with the University of Lagos. The Ndukwe Kalu Foundation plays a pivotal role in safeguarding children’s online safety within the rapidly evolving internet landscape. Initiatives such as the Child Online Safety, Protection, and Reporting of Abuse (COSPRA Summit) have proven instrumental in addressing essential issues at the heart of digital well-being, underscoring the foundation’s dedication to preserving children’s online experiences.
As we bid farewell to the dynamic year that was 2023, marked by innovation, collaboration, and growth, we eagerly anticipate an even more impactful 2024. I extend my heartfelt appreciation for the collective support we have received from our stakeholders. Together, we will continue to drive digital excellence, foster innovation, and create a thriving digital ecosystem in Nigeria.
Wishing you all joyful holidays and a blessed New Year ahead. I am enthusiastic about sharing the strategy for 2024 and celebrating progress in the coming year.
Warm Regards,
