A Trip Through 2025: Celebrating Two Decades of Excellence in Nigeria’s Internet Ecosystem

I am excited to welcome you to a new year. This address is the first of many messages I will share with you in 2026, as I take you through our impact on the .ng domain and Nigeria’s internet ecosystem. It comes on the back of a remarkable year defined by strong partnerships, meaningful collaboration, and collective achievement.

2025 was a year that brought together the strength of our Executive Board of Directors, Board of Trustees, accredited registrars, staff, partners, and the broader NiRA community to reach a defining milestone: 20 years of stewarding Nigeria’s digital identity through the .ng domain. It was a year that reminded us that progress in the internet ecosystem is never the work of one institution alone, but the outcome of shared vision and sustained cooperation.

As we step into 2026, it is important to pause and reflect on what was truly an extraordinary year for NiRA.

2025 was not just another year on our calendar; it was a milestone year. It marked 20 years of stewardship of Nigeria’s country code top-level domain and two decades of deliberate effort to build, protect, and grow Nigeria’s digital identity. Looking back, it is clear that 2025 was defined by purpose, momentum, and impact.

Throughout the year, we demonstrated what 20 years of managing the Nigerian online identity stands for. Driving engagement remained a key priority for NiRA in 2025. We actively participated in engagements across Nigeria, the African continent, and globally—representing the .ng community at major platforms including ICANN, the West African Internet Governance Forum, the Africa Internet Summit, the Internet Governance Forum (IGF), and several other regional and international activities.

These moments reinforced a simple but powerful truth: Nigeria’s internet future belongs to everyone, and the .ng domain is a shared national asset.

In 2025 we told our story with intention. Our partnerships, collaborations, sponsorships, events reminded us how far Nigeria’s internet ecosystem has come and why sustaining that growth matters. NiRA remained in the national conversation, consistently in the news as we pushed the agenda of digital sovereignty, local ownership, and trust in Nigeria’s internet space. We made it clear that .ng is not optional, but essential to Nigeria’s digital economy and national identity.

From the Tech Convergence to the Awards & Anniversary Night Celebration, our goal remained to spotlight the innovations on the .ng domain and recognize individuals & organizations contributing to the .ng domain and strengthening Nigeria’s internet ecosystem.

As President of NiRA, I see 2025 as a year that strengthened our foundation for the future. We appreciate our partners, registrars and stakeholders that aligned with our mission, energized our community, and positioned us to move forward with purpose and commitment

Now in 2026, we carry that momentum forward, building on 20 years of impact, deepening trust, expanding adoption, and ensuring that Nigeria continues to shape, not just consume, the global internet.

This new year presents fresh opportunities to build on our foundations, accelerate impact, and lead with intention.

Together, we will continue shaping a resilient, trusted, and globally respected Nigerian internet — one that reflects our identity, supports innovation, and serves generations to come.
