Driving Innovation, Identity, and Impact: A Message from the NiRA President

This month marked another significant step in NiRA’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s digital identity and amplifying our presence within the global internet governance community. An important highlight was NiRA’s participation at ICANN 84 in Dublin, a global gathering that continues to shape the future of the internet.

At the ccTLD News Session, NiRA shared critical progress underway within the .ng Registry, reflecting the work being done to modernize operations and deepen Nigeria’s participation in global digital systems. We presented the automation of our registrar accreditation process, our Tech Convergence platform, which continues to drive nationwide adoption of digital identity, and the launch of the .ng Academy Learning Management System, designed to build capacity across Nigeria’s digital ecosystem. These innovations demonstrate our commitment to efficiency, transparency, skill development, and adherence to global best practices.

As the month began, our primary focus was on Tech Convergence 2.0, and I would like to extend my sincere appreciation to all stakeholders, partners, members, and attendees who joined us in Abuja earlier this month. The event was a resounding success, bringing together leaders across government, the private sector, academia, and civil society. The conversations we had on digital identity, policy alignment, national infrastructure, and capacity building reflect the collective will to strengthen Nigeria’s digital transformation.

Another milestone this month is the opening of voting for the 8th .ng Awards, which features 88 nominees across 19 categories. Voting remains open until November 19th, 2025, ahead of Awards Night on December 2nd, 2025. This annual celebration recognises individuals and organizations that continue to strengthen Nigeria’s online ecosystem through impactful use of the .ng domain. Their contributions serve as a poignant reminder of why our work matters.

I am also pleased to announce the new partnership between the .ng Academy and Cisco. This collaboration will deliver practical, career-focused courses that directly support workforce readiness, entrepreneurship, and Nigeria’s digital economy. Learners can already access over fifteen free courses on the Academy platform through December 2025, with advanced certification tracks set to follow. This partnership aligns with NiRA’s mission to democratize digital skills and empower Nigerians through scalable, high-quality education.

This year also marks 20 years of NiRA, a milestone that reflects two decades of stewardship, resilience, and evolution. As we prepare for a special unveiling during the 8th .ng Awards Night, we honour the people, institutions, and partners who have shaped this journey. It is a moment to reflect on how far we have come and to reaffirm our commitment to the future we are building.

NiRA remains unwavering in its mandate: to strengthen Nigeria’s digital identity, enhance online trust, and support the nation’s digital transformation through the continued promotion and management of the .ng domain. Our work is not just administrative; it is national, strategic, and essential to Nigeria’s place in the global digital economy.

Thank you for your continued partnership and dedication to advancing Nigeria’s digital future.
