The Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NiRA), through the .ng Academy, hosted its latest edition of the .ng Reseller Entrepreneurship Program (REP), a capacity-building webinar designed to equip aspiring digital entrepreneurs with practical knowledge on building a sustainable online business in the .ng domain ecosystem.
The session opened with an address by NiRA’s Chief Operating Officer, Mrs. Oluwaseyi Onasanya, who emphasized the strategic importance of reseller networks in expanding the reach and adoption of the .ng domain. Her remarks highlighted NiRA’s continued efforts to lower entry barriers and support local players who wish to participate in Nigeria’s growing digital economy.
Understanding the DNS: The Foundation of the Internet
The first facilitator session, led by Shehu Mohammed, NiRA’s Network & Infrastructure Officer, introduced participants to the Domain Name System (DNS). This invisible yet critical technology allows users to access websites using names rather than IP addresses. He broke down the structure, importance, and reliability of the DNS, laying a solid foundation for participants to understand how domain reselling fits into the broader internet ecosystem.
Entrepreneurship Opportunities with the .ng Domain
Following the technical overview, John Tonka, a digital business strategist, delivered an engaging session on the entrepreneurial opportunities available within the .ng reseller network. His session focused on market entry strategies, identifying customer needs, and how to carve out a niche using specific .ng domain extensions to serve targeted industries or communities. Participants were encouraged to think beyond sales towards building sustainable digital service businesses.
Compliance and Ethics in Domain Reselling
The program also featured a session on compliance and ethical standards, where participants were introduced to best practices and regulatory expectations that guide .ng domain reselling. This segment emphasized the importance of transparency, professionalism, and adherence to industry standards in all operational dealings.
Security and Privacy as Core Values
Another key focus of the training was privacy and security, an area often overlooked by new resellers. Facilitators emphasized the importance of participants prioritizing data protection and digital trust, both for themselves and for their future customers. This session tied closely to NiRA’s broader efforts in ensuring a safe and trusted domain space for Nigerians and international users alike.
Building the Next Generation of Reseller Entrepreneurs
The REP webinar concluded with an interactive Q&A session, where participants engaged with facilitators and asked practical questions, receiving valuable insights on the next steps toward building a successful .ng reseller business.
Through structured learning, expert facilitation, and real-world guidance, the REP continues to serve as a vital entry point for entrepreneurs seeking to unlock value in Nigeria’s digital ecosystem.
