Power to startups, as Nigeria marches steadily into IPV6

As part of NIRA’s effort to deepen the penetration and adoption of Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPV6) in Nigeria, NiRA in conjunction with the Association of Telecommunications Companies of Nigeria (ATCON) and the University of Ibadan (UI) will be hosting a four day International Workshop on “Internet Number Resources Management (INRM) and  IPv6  Planning and Deployment” in Lagos from August 23 to 26, 2016.  Participation at the workshop is targeted at Network Engineers in the Nigerian ICT ecosystem including the academics.

The workshop is graciously facilitated by the African Network Information Center (AFRINIC) as part of its annual free extensive training program for network engineers, with priority being given to AFRINIC members. Resource persons for this workshop are international experts coming from outside Nigeria.

I encourage our Network Engineers to be part of this training which would provide opportunities for Nigerian Network operators to migrate from IPV4 to IPV6 with its attendant advantages.  It is not too late to learn about the next generation Internet Protocol (IP) addressing system that will allow the Internet of Things (IoT) flourish, so that you can also play your part in the emerging knowledge economy where everything is connected. I congratulate the startup companies selected by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) for the GITEX Technology Week, taking place in Dubai, UAE in October 2016. These startup companies are from diverse sectors, including Legal, Education, Retail, Healthcare, Media and Marketing, Hospitality, Travels and Transport. By showcasing the abundant talents available in Nigeria at International exhibitions, NITDA is enhancing the growth of the Nigerian economy, creating jobs and ultimately, wealth for all.  This push for diversification into the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Sector as an alternative to Oil is commendable.

If you your company was not selected this year, start to plan for next year by registering the Domain name that expresses your dream. Work harder and plan for next year. NIRA will be there to support you.

Your President,

Rev’d Sunday Folayan
