Dear Esteemed Members, Partners, and Stakeholders,
This past month has been truly eventful, and in the best way possible. From global gatherings to local impact, the pace of activity has only reaffirmed one thing: collaboration across borders is not only necessary but also critical to building a better internet for all.
Across the global stage, countries and organizations continue to converge around shared digital goals—transparency, accessibility, and inclusion. For us at NiRA, this commitment to progress was reflected strongly throughout June.
Personally, it was a high-tempo month that began in earnest during the first week with the onboarding of newly elected members of the Executive Board of Directors (EBoD). We followed closely with our first EBoD meeting post-AGM. This moment was not only procedural but strategic—an opportunity to formally introduce our new directors to NiRA’s operational frameworks and the pivotal role the executive board plays in shaping policy, guiding innovation, and steering the long-term vision of the association.
Among the significant milestones this month, one stands out prominently: the launch of the WHOIS Privacy Redaction service for all .ng domain users.
As president, I view this not only as a technical implementation but as a strong signal of our continued commitment to data protection, user trust, and domain security. This move aligns the .ng domain with international privacy standards and opens the door for even greater adoption by individuals, startups, and organizations who place a premium on security. This is a vital step forward for the .ng registry, and we are proud to lead it.
June also highlighted NiRA’s continued support for education and internet governance, two pillars we believe are inseparable from the future of Nigeria’s digital growth. Through training sessions, school engagements, and institutional partnerships, we reaffirmed our commitment to nurturing informed digital citizens, especially the younger generation, so they are not just users of the internet but safe, responsible, and empowered participants in it.
Another important initiative launched this month is the .ng Monthly Webinar Series, powered by the .ng Academy. This monthly webinar series themed “Putting Nigeria First in the Digital Age: Why .ng Matters” is apt as it provided opportunity for engaging discourse on the role of .ng in driving the Nigeria-First Policy agenda of the Federal Government. Key insights on the role of .ng in driving sectors of the Nigerian economy and contributing to the GDP growth. Interested participants can find more details on the Webinar here www.nira.org.ng.
NiRA delegates were present at the Internet Governance Forum (IGF) 2025 in Norway, where global leaders, institutions, and advocates converged to discuss the future of AI, digital policy, and internet rights. NiRA’s presence at this level is not symbolic—it is a recognition of our voice, our value, and our readiness to shape the internet not just in Nigeria, but across Africa and beyond. We are proud to be in the room for these conversations—because policy decisions made globally have direct relevance to the everyday Nigerian internet user.
In summary, June was a month of governance, global dialogue, security, and strategic alignment. I am proud of the work we continue to do at NiRA, the team that makes it happen, and the stakeholders who support our journey.
Together, we are building a stronger .ng, and a better internet for Nigeria.
Thank you.
Adesola Akinsanya,
President, NiRA
