NiRA Champions .ng Adoption and Cybersecurity Awareness at Nigeria Computer Society ConNovate 2025

The .ng team arrived in Kano on 13th August 2025, for a packed week with the Nigeria Computer Society International Conference, for ConNovate 2025, where NiRA participated as a partner and stakeholder.

The NiRA delegation was led by the president, Mr. Adesola Akinsanya; Mr. Destiny Amana; and the vice president, Mr. Murtala Abdullahi, alongside staff from the NiRA Secretariat, including Shehu Mohammed, Olumide Coker, Bimbo Aderibigbe, and Jessica Alexander.

We started with one of the pre-conference workshops hosted by NiRA and the .ng Academy, which focused on cybersecurity. In today’s digital world, cybersecurity is no longer abstract; it is a necessity to stay safe online. The workshop, attended by over 200 participants, was facilitated by Shehu Mohammed and Lateef Hamzat. The goal was to equip participants with practical knowledge on building a more secure and aware digital culture, knowing how to take the proper steps against cyberattacks and online threats, and understanding the role the .ng domain plays in ensuring safer online spaces.

The session also spotlighted measures NiRA has implemented to protect the .ng domain, such as WHOIS Privacy Redaction and the ongoing rollout of DNSSEC (DNS Security).

As part of ConNovate 2025, NiRA also featured in a panel session, delivering an address on “Owning Our Digital Identity: Why the .ng Domain Matters for Innovation and Security.” The discussion highlighted how the .ng domain drives digital sovereignty, strengthens digital ownership, and champions a safer Nigerian internet space.

We were also proud to have our accredited registrars from Kano, Africaclouds, Yahmis, Altaservers, and Webmable actively participate in ConNovate 2025, alongside Smartweb from Jos. The registrars engaged with participants, showcasing the opportunities and benefits of owning a .ng domain.

Beyond the conference halls, we took the awareness campaign further with radio engagements on Wazobia FM Kano and Freedom Radio Nigeria, where members of the NiRA team and accredited registrars spoke directly to the people of Kano about the importance of embracing .ng.
