2017 AFRICA INTERNET SUMMIT

The Africa Internet Summit (AIS) ’17 held in Nairobi, Kenya from 21st May to 2nd June 2017. AIS is an annual, regional, multi-stakeholder ICT event combining, workshops, conferences and networking for the internet Industry. It is the pinnacle educational and business ICT event in Africa where key players in the Internet industry can interact with the global Internet community. The summit is the place where the African Technical Institutions and Af* such as AfNOG, AFRINIC, AfREN, AfricaCERT, AfTLD – AROC, ISOC Africa, AfrICANN, AfGWG etc meet.

The AIS’17 Opening Ceremony which took place on Monday 29 May, 2017  was formally opened by Victor Kyalo, Principal Secretary in the Ministry of ICT of Kenya.

The workshops at the conference which held from Sunday 21 May, included AfNOG tracks, CERT Workshops, FIRE Africa Workshop, AFNOG Tutorials, Android Apps Tutorial, Google Apps Tutorial, AFTLD Train the Trainers Course, AFRINIC’s IPv6 Foundation Training, AFRINIC’s Internet Routing Registry Workshop, AF-IX Workshop, etc. In attendance at the various workshop and tutorials were over 300 participants from over 35 African Countries.

The first AfChix Tech-Women Summit also took place at AIS’17 on 27 May with around 100 participants attending to listen to key female leaders in the ICT industry talk about their experiences. The theme of their discussion was ”A Spectrum of Opportunities”.

The summit ended with a presentation by the next host country, Nigeria for the AFRINIC in November, 2017.
