COALITION OF MSME STAKEHOLDERS FORUM ON THE REVISED NATIONAL TAX POLICY AND THE IMPLICATION FOR MSMES

The coalition of Micro Small Medium Enterprises (MSME) stakeholders’ forum held on Tuesday, 8th August 2017, at the Federal Institute of Individual Research Oshodi (FIIRO).

The meeting organized by the Nigeria Association of Small Medium Enterprises (NASME) gathered members of the coalition committee including, Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NIRA), Nigeria Economic Summit Group, Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria, etc., to discuss the Voluntary Assets and Income Scheme (VAIDS), the revised National Tax Policy and the overall progress of the Tax Advocacy.

The President/Chairman of the council of the Nigeria Association of Small Medium Enterprises (NASME), Sir (Prince) ‘Degun Agboade in his welcome address thanked the development partner Enhancing Nigeria Advocacy for Better Business Environment (ENABLE2) and members of the coalition team for their support. Members were encouraged to take advantage of the tax penalty waivers offered to NASME members and recommended that SMEs in Nigeria should ensure that they are tax compliant.

The first Tax Thursday campaign commenced on the 6th of July 2017 to educate and enlighten the general populace on their tax responsibilities.

The Acting President of Nigeria, Prof Yemi Osibanjo declared every Thursday as National Tax Day for the next one year, during the voluntary Assets and Income Declaration Scheme (VAIDS). This day is set aside for creating awareness on the obligations of tax payments by Nigerians.
