Domain Names and Subdomains, Why Sub-Domains?

A domain name is a user-friendly naming system that helps people to easily locate your website and information about you, your business or company on the Internet. Otherwise people would have been required to type an IP address, the language of computers for communication in a network.

The domain naming system serves the purpose of converting machine-readable IP address like to human-readable hostnames, such as, an easy-to-remember character strings call domain name.

Subdomains are created from registered domain names. A subdomain could be a third-level (3LD) or even a fourth level (4LD) domain that was created from the original top-level domain. For example,

A subdomain is a name that is part of the main website domain name but is considered a separate entity by the search engines. Subdomains are extensions of a domain name instead of purchasing another domain name. They are usually used for segmentation or of verification of different services provided by an organization. Subdomains can be used for organizational purposes such as blogging website for the organisations. On most occasions, subdomains are created to boost your website Search Engine Optimization (SEO). Using subdomain names is now a common practice by most organisations.
