President Buhari at 2018 eNigeria

On Monday 5th November 2018 at the International Conference Centre, Abuja, His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buharithe President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, officially declared open the 2018 eNigeria Conference, Exhibition and Awards.

The event ran from 5th to 7th November 2018 and the theme for the 2018 edition was: “PROMOTING A DIGITAL ECONOMY IN AN ERA OF EMERGING TECHNOLOGIES THROUGH EFFECTIVE REGULATIONS

In his opening remarks, Dr. Isa Pantami, the Director General (DG) of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) stated that the conference provides a platform for all the stakeholders to brainstorm on issues at the front burner of our Nation’s ICT sector in order to proffer ingenious solutions.

 NITDA provides advisory role to MDAs at the early stages of their budgetary cycle to ensure that whatever project they propose provides value for money, avoids duplication and waste.

 The Keynote Speaker at the event, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu spoke on “The Role of Disruptive Technologies in Curtailing Corruption at the ongoing”. He encouraged Security Agencies in Nigeria to explore the use of Blockchain Technology to preserve the integrity of data.

 The Chief Host, eNigeria 2018, Honourable Minister of Communications, Barr Abdur-Raheem Adebayo Shittu informed the audience that Nigeria has achieved a broadband penetration of 23% in 2018 from 10% in 2014.

As he declared the event open, President Buhari commended the efforts of NITDA on the Registration of IT Contractors and Service Providers, in collaboration with other regulatory bodies with special emphasis on competencies.

 He enjoined the Conference to come up with innovative ideas, workable and implementable recommendations that would help and enhance government’s efforts at creating the enabling environment for the promotion of the digital economy in an era of disruptive technologies, considering our peculiarities as a country.

At the event, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria reiterated the commitment of the Government to fighting corruption noting that the failure to kill corruption would result in corruption killing the people.

 Other dignitaries at the 2018 eNigeria included Prof Umar Garba Danbatta, EVC/CEO, Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Engineer Aliyu Aziz Abubakar, DG/CEO, National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), Reverend Sunday Folayan, President, Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NiRA), Engineer Ikechukwu Nnamani, CEO, Medallion Communications, Professor Sahalu Junaid, Department of Computer Science, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria amongst others.

In the NiRA booth at the exhibition area of the 2018 edition of eNigeria, were NiRA staff with three of NiRA Accredited registrars (Upperlink Limited, TFHost and Dot-Engee Nigeria Enterprises. This was a rewarding experience for all.
