The Nigeria Computer Society (NCS) celebrated its 40th Anniversary in promoting Information Technology Advocacy in Nigeria. The event was held in conjunction with the National Information Technology Merit Award (NITMA 2018) on Friday, the 16th November, 2018 which also doubled as the 40th Anniversary Awards, Special Recognition Awards, Fellowship Conferment, IT Industry Awards and IT Personality of the year award.
Being its 40th anniversary, NCS recognised its first registered 40 members, Past Presidents, and other leaders. NCS also conferred special recognition awards some selected members of the public who have contributed immensely to the growth of Information Technology in Nigeria.
Some members were admitted into the Professional Fellowship cadre. These members include Dr. Isa Ibrahim Pantami, Director-General/CEO of National Information Technology Development Agency of Nigeria (NITDA), Elder Chima Onyekwere, the CEO of Linkserve, a pioneer Internet Service Provider (ISP), Funke Opeke, CEO MainOne and many others.
The event was Chaired by Mr Austin Okere and Barrister Adebayo Shittu the Honourable Minister of Communications was the Special Guest of Honour.
The NCS is a major stakeholder in the running of the affairs of NiRA and played a major role in the formation of NiRA.
The current President, Prof. Adesola Aderounmu, said NCS would continue to play a greater role and grow as a powerful and influential ICT catalyst, driving Nigeria forward into full digital inclusion and development encompassing a digital economy and digital governance.
