CECAD HOSTED 2019 SAFER INTERNET DAY (SID)

The 2019 Safer Internet Day (SID) hosted by the Centre for Cyber Awareness and Development (CECAD) took place in NiRA’s training room on the 5th of February 2019.

This year’s Safer Internet Day was themed “Together for a Better Internet” and was focused on creating more awareness for safer, affordable and accessible internet for all Nigerians.

Mr. Hilary Damissah, the Project Coordinator, CECAD, while giving the welcome address, stressed on the importance of safer internet in our day-to-day dealings. He noted how the Internet has become an integral part of people’s daily life activities. From Online Banking to online Shopping, online Booking and online Payment, it is pertinent to create a better and safe internet not just for the adult but most importantly for the youths and children.

A panel session consisting of various ICT practitioners such as Mr. David Alozie from Disruptive Africa, Yemi Odutola of W Tech, Mr. Remmy Nweke of IT Realms, and Clifford Agugoesi from Cyber Era and moderated by Chuks Otuya, who discussed the topic: Together for a better internet ( in terms of: accessibility, affordability, availability, quality of services, policy, and security) was the highlight of the day. The panel session was concluded with an interactive session which afforded the participants an opportunity to contribute to the topic under discussion.
