HIGHLIGHTS OF THE .GOV.NG & .MIL.NG SENSITIZATION

The .gov.ng and .mil.ng sensitization forum held on Thursday, 2nd May, 2019 at the NAF Conference Centre, Abuja. The forum was convened by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) in collaboration with the Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NiRA). The Director General of NITDA, Dr. Isa Ali Ibrahim, delivered the welcome address while the Introductory Remarks as well as the Workshop Overview was delivered by Mr Muhammed Rudman, President NiRA. The NiRA secretariat was also represented by members of the management team.

Mrs. Busayo Balogun, Head, Corporate Services, NiRA, delivered the highlights of the reviewed .gov.ng and .mil.ng policy which she stated were a collaboration of inputs received from the stakeholders at a meeting held at the NiRA office complex in May 2018. Some of the issues she highlighted that were extensively deliberated upon along with their corresponding provisions in the reviewed policy include:

  • Cost/Pricing of .gov.ng domains
  • Technical Contacts/Migration Process for MDAs
  • Update on the Geoname policy
  • Service Level Agreement (SLA) and their importance in MDA agreements with service providers
  • The inactivity of domains owned by MDAs
  • Automation of the Domain Registration & Management Process
  • .gov.ng Dispute Resolution Process
  • Hosting of Government Websites
  • .mil.ng Domains

Participants at the event asked many questions which contributed to the active discussions anchored by the Executive Secretary NiRA, Mrs Edith Udeagu. The NiRA President, Mr. Muhammed Rudman and Immediate Past President , Reverend Sunday Folayan were available to address the concerns of the audience. The event was adjudged a success by all and sundry.
