THE NEXT CEO CONFERENCE

On the 16th of May 2019, the Continuing Professional Development Centre (CPDC) Yaba College of Technology (YCT) in partnership with Fali Concept Limited held the Next CEO Conference with the theme The Techpreneurs 2.0 at the Multipurpose Hall YCT Lagos.

The Conference kicked off at 11:00am with the welcome address by the Centre Manager of CPDC, Dr. (Mrs.) Taiwo Omomia. In her welcome address Dr. Omomia said that the conference was organized to bridge the gap between the school and workplace/entrepreneurship.

The Rector, Yaba College of Technology who was represented by the Deputy Rector Administration, Mrs. Titilayo Adetowun Ukabam gave the opening speech. During her speech, she encouraged the students to listen attentively to the conference speakers as they would glean from life lessons with potentials to assist them become successful entrepreneurs and career professionals.

There was a panel discussion with the guest speakers: Temi Igure; Regional Sales Manager, Telco Sector, Chuks Oteke; Founder of Film Anatomie, Adedipo Olagbegi; CEO, Delphi Technologies, Odionye Confidence; President, Beat Drone and TedX Speaker. They briefly shared their life stories of how they persevered to get to where they are today and encouraged the participants to chase their dreams and always collaborate to achieve better results. After the panel session, a presentation was made by Joshua Ayo Omomia a Talent Recruitment Professional and Chairperson, Millenialz Career Academy. During his presentation with  the title “Getting Your Dream Job in a Crowded Market”, he enlightened the students on the need to ensure that their Curriculum Vitaes (CVs) are tailored towards the jobs they apply for and why unnecessary information which could promote bias like Age, Sex, Religion must be avoided when developing a CV. The students were also advised to make good use of their internship in the work environment. An internship is seen as a starting point to develop the right skills and knowledge to be employable and succeed in the workplace.

Mr. Ikechukwu Ezeji, Programme Officer, NiRA Academy gave a presentation on “.ng String and the Internet opportunities for the Nigerian Youth”. Highlighting the importance of the .ng brand, he encouraged the students to purchase the .ng domain name for their businesses; stressing that the .ng domain is both affordable and excellent for young entrepreneurs and businesses. Two NIRA Accredited Registrars (Whogohost Limited and Garanntor Nigeria Limited) were present at the conference to register domains, respond to enquiries and engage with the students. NiRA souvenirs were distributed at the event.

There was a pitch session by twelve students on their business ideas. The session was very interesting as the students highlighted the benefits of their business ideas.

At the end of the conference, certificates were presented to guest speakers and NiRA as a show of appreciation for supporting the leaders of tomorrow in technology and business.
