The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) 2019 Nominating Committee (NomCom) announced the selections for ten leadership positions on 19th August, 2019. Those selected will begin their terms after the ICANN66 Annual General Meeting 2-7 November 2019 in Montréal, Canada.
The 2019 Nominating Committee received 127 applications from 42 women and 85 men during its nomination period from 17 January 2019 to 22 March 2019.
The regional breakdown of this year’s applicants was:
- 56 from Africa
- 35 from Asia, Australia, Pacific Islands
- 13 from Europe
- 21 from Latin America, Caribbean Islands
- 2 from North America
The Nominating Committee is charged with recruiting and selecting a portion of ICANN’s leadership. The Nominating Committee is mandated to ensure that ICANN’s overall leadership is diverse in geography, culture, skills, experience, perspective and meet some basic requirements.
The ICANN chairman on behalf of the Nominating Committee, did thank all those who applied for leadership positions at ICANN and encouraged all to continue their participation within ICANN as the involvement is valued and important to ICANN’s mission.
