2019 SOCIAL INFLUENCERS’ SUMMIT

The Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD) organized a two-day Summit for Social Influencers on 30th and 31st July, 2019 at Mambaya house, Kano state. The Summit attended by special dignitaries, social media influencers and over three hundred participants aimed t0 create a symposium of ideas, innovations and forum where modern advocacy tools and strategies were showcased.

The Summit was graced by the Executive Vice Chairman of Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Prof. Umar G. Danbatta who delivered a keynote address with the theme: “The Internet We Want and the Role of the Regulator”. Representatives of the Nigerian Internet Registration Association (NiRA) also graced the event and enlightened all on the Importance and Security of .ng Domain Names.

With 28 parallel sessions, there was extensive discussions around various thematic issues like: gender-based violence; social media as a tool for promoting social accountability; drama, poetry and music in the social media; role of online newspapers in fighting corruption; understanding the power of the New Broadcast Media; winning the battle against harmful content; African Declaration of Internet Rights and Freedoms.

The event concluded on a high note, causing all to reflect on the usefulness and influence of social media in the current Internet-dependent society. The program ended with the delivery of the vote of thanks by Mr. Y. Z. Ya’u the Executive Director, CITAD.
