PRESIDENT’S SPEECH

Happy New Year! Our first edition of the NiRA eNewsletter for the Year 2020. We are looking forward with excitement to the good things that will happen at NiRA and NiRA would be engaged with. The Year 2020 will be great.

Our warmest greetings to all. We are grateful to God Almighty for the past successes of all and look forward to God’s blessings upon all stakeholders, NiRA Accredited Registrars, registrants, Members of our Association, NiRA Board of Trustees, Executive Board of Directors and staff.

Another year, fresh achievements are targeted. Now that 2019 is officially over and we have swiftly moved into the year 2020, we have activated the NiRA plans for the productive year ahead and look forward to making changes within the domain name ecosystem.

As usual, we will work closely with our NiRA Accredited Registrars and other stakeholders to run outreach programs in all the geo-political zones of Nigeria. We need to get many Nigerian businesses online in collaboration with other stakeholders. A lot of our activities are geared towards promoting local content in the ICT Sector. We are hopeful that more Nigerians would be online for the right reasons, especially with the Government’s plan to increase broadband penetration.

The engagement with our Law Enforcement Officers is paramount in order to foster safer practices with the DNS ecosystem in Nigeria.

We reiterate once again, that the benefits of using the .ng domain names for an organisation’s website and email addresses are enormous. Some of these benefits include the reduction of capital flight, geo-targeting benefits for websites, increased security, promotion of local content development, development of Nigeria’s ICT infrastructure, higher ranking on search engines such as google.com.ng, localized support and increased brand recognition, etc.

We congratulate Mr. Tope Fashedemi on his appointment as Permanent Secretary from the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy and also congratulate all the other appointees for the position of Permanent Secretary from thieir respective organisations. We look forward to them fulfilling the trust reposed on them with the appointments. We look forward to the collective effort of Nigerians promoting the usage of the Nigerian Online Identity (.ng) and flying the .ng flag online.

Happy New Year!!!
