During the recent NiRA Accredited Registrars Forum, I thanked Registrars for their consistency and enumerated some of the efforts made by the Executive Board as well as the NiRA Secretariat to drive the continued growth of the .ng domain brand. The current .ng promotion is still ongoing until 31st December 2021 and has been an opportunity for additional growth of .ng domain name registrations. Our message at the Forum has remained consistent; Domestic Accredited Registrars need to develop creative strategies to increase the adoption level of the .ng domain name extension. On our part at NiRA, we are unrelenting in building robust technical and administrative structures that support the needs of our Accredited Registrars and the millions of businesses and individuals who use cyberspace. I am grateful to the Accredited Registrars as well as other NiRA Stakeholders who were present at the Forum for their invaluable contributions to the resolutions.
It is worth mentioning here again that we are leading the campaign to ensure government agencies adopt the .ng domain name in accordance with provisions of the Federal Government’s policy statement. We have received encouraging results so far, evident from our joint capacity-building initiative with the Bureau of Public Service Reform (BPSR) to train websites managers and ICT officers of government agencies on web development and hosting management, as well as NiRA’s participation in the jury of the Federal Government Scorecard for ranking the websites of Federal Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs). The Scorecard is one of the key indicators in the National e-Government Masterplan.
The emergence of COVID-19 has accelerated the switch to remote and virtual conducts of businesses and leisure activities, facilitating the widespread adoption of technology and technology platforms. The National e-Government Masterplan is a strategy for digitizing government processes and operations so that they can be delivered online in a timely and seamless manner to meet the needs of modern living and doing business. Our role at NiRA is to help the Federal Government’s plan come to life through the promotion of the .ng domain name extension. We are grateful to Mr. Dasuki Ibrahim Arabi, Director-General, Bureau of Public Service Reforms, for lending his full support to the training program and organising a committee to ensure government ministries, agencies, and MDAs comply with the digital roadmap of the Federal Government.
NiRA is dedicated to making the.ng domain brand a household name in Nigeria. Even as the year comes to a close, our work continues. I urge everyone to stay safe while we all take a break, visit with family, and celebrate the holidays. As for the NiRA team, we will begin our annual retreat on the 16th of December, evaluating 2021 and setting S.M.A.R.T. (Specific Measurable Actionable Realistic Time-bound) goals for 2022. I want to thank the members of the Executive Board, the Board of Trustees, and the Secretariat for all their hard work, and I would like to appreciate all NiRA members for their support to the Association. DO have a prosperous 2022!!
