PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

The first quarter of 2022 has been exciting for us at the .ng Registry. We hope that these three months have been fruitful for our valued readers.

We are pleased that .ng domains have been in the news and for good reasons. The Federal Executive Council announced the approval of a new policy which makes it mandatory for government MDAs to only use .ng domains for all correspondence, and host government data locally. The implementation team, of which NiRA is a critical member, has commenced work already and is positioned to ensure that this policy is implemented seamlessly. We are thankful to President Muhammadu Buhari and the Federal Executive Council for this timely intervention which lends credibility to the vision of Nigeria’s digital roadmap initiated by the Honourable Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Professor Isa Ibrahim Ali (Pantami). It is a new dawn for the .ng domain string and Nigeria’s digital landscape as we gradually transition to a fully digitalised government and economy. It can only get better from here.

NiRA’s Executive Board of Directors recently approved a reduction in the price of.ng domains at the second level, effective March 1, 2022. This translates to a 40% price reduction, and the move has been lauded as a step in the right direction by mainstream media and key influencers in the tech industry. We are sensitive to market trends and want more individuals and businesses to have a strong online presence. .ng domains are our online identity in Nigeria, and we have taken all necessary steps to ensure that NiRA Accredited Registrars can provide domains to the general public as required. As the custodian of Nigeria’s country code Top Level Domain name, we will continue to promote the development of the Nigerian Digital Economy.

The fifth edition of the .ng Awards will take place on Friday, April 29, 2022, continuing our tradition of honouring entrepreneurs and businesses that promote the .ng online identity and contribute to our nation’s economy. Nominations for the awards are now open and the nomination form found at https://nira.org.ng/ngawards2022/ . There are 18 different award categories. I urge you to use the .ng domain string to nominate your company and any other businesses you know that deserve recognition for their outstanding internet presence.

We will continue to launch initiatives and programs that will help Nigerian entrepreneurs succeed online.

Do stay safe and healthy!

Thank you.

Muhammad Rudman

President, NiRA.
