WEST AFRICA INTERNET GOVERNANCE FORUM 2022

The 15th West Africa Internet Governance Forum was hosted in Accra, Ghana between the 26th and 27th of May 2022, with the aim of promoting sustainable Internet Governance via robust multi-stakeholder-led action. The event was well-attended with delegates from across the region, representing Government, the Private Sector, Academia, International Policy Organisations and Civil Society. The Speakers at the event included representatives from the Legislature, Domain Name Industry, Academia, and Not-for-profits. The Chairperson, WAIGF, Mrs Mary Uduma welcomed everyone to the event, reminding all that although the COVID-19 Pandemic greatly affected development in the region and indeed the rest of the world, it also opened our minds to the endless possibilities available with Technology. The theme of this year’s forum was “Digital Sustainability: Data Innovations for Post Covid Recovery.

The Nigeria Internet Governance Forum (NIGF) was represented at the Summit by the current Chairperson,  Mr. Muhammed Rudman, President NiRA, and a delegation which included the Chief Operating Officer and Head of Secretariat NiRA, Mrs. Eyitayo Iyortim and the Programme Manager, Mr Oshoke Samson Igonor. The immediate past Vice-Chairperson NIGF, Ms Olatokunboh Oyeleye also attended in her capacity as Deputy Director, New Media and Information Security, Nigeria Communications Commission.
