Nurturing Nigeria’s Digital Landscape: NiRA’s Path of Innovation and Collaboration.

Dear Valued Readers,

At NiRA, we hold a pivotal role as the stewards of Nigeria’s country code Top Level Domain (ccTLD), a crucial element in advancing our nation’s digital ecosystem. We recognize the significance of collaborating with strategic partners who share our vision and can assist in achieving this vital objective.

Some of these significant partnerships include those with government entities and organizations that stand out. These partnerships play a pivotal role in accelerating technological advancement for the growth of the nation’s economy.

A recent highlight last month was the visit of Mr. Bashir U. Kwabo, the Honorable Commissioner of Innovation and Digital Economy for Sokoto State, and his team. The meeting emphasized NiRA’s crucial role in advancing Sokoto State’s digital landscape, and we express our gratitude for their support.

As the custodians of the .ng domain, our active participation in global internet discussions is paramount. This objective was evident by our presence at the 18th edition of the Internet Governance Forum in Kyoto, Japan. The forum provided a platform to guide the global community toward a more inclusive and connected digital future. Our engagement in these conversations impacts not only the global internet community but also the African and Nigerian internet communities.

Additionally, the .ng Academy has embarked on commendable projects this year to contribute to the digital landscape. Last week, Ms. Joy Lawal, the Dean of the Academy, along with Mr. Muritala Abdullahi, Vice President of NiRA, and Mr. Mayowa Ajiboye, a NiRA board member, engaged in partnership discussions with Mr. Muhammad T. Othman, the Honorable Commissioner of Science, Technology, and Innovation in Kano State. These collaborations are integral to enhancing the .ng Academy’s mission of promoting digital literacy in Nigeria and supporting the Federal Government in training one million Nigerians.

The 6th .NG Awards voting process officially closed on the 24th October 2023. We wish to take this moment to extend our heartfelt acknowledgment to everyone who voted. For our nominees, your outstanding contributions have significantly enriched the Nigerian digital ecosystem. Thank you for your dedicated efforts and for being an integral part of our mission to advance the .ng domain brand.

This week, the NiRA team is attending ICANN 78 in Hamburg, Germany, where one of the major highlights is the presentation by the .NG Academy at the country code Names Supporting Organization (ccNSO). The presentation will shed light on how the Academy contributes to technology advancement and DNS development in Nigeria.

NiRA remains steadfast in fostering digital innovation and nurturing Nigeria’s internet ecosystem. We extend our heartfelt gratitude for your unwavering support in promoting the growth and adoption of the .ng domain brand. Together, we continue to shape the future of Nigeria’s digital landscape.

Warm Regards,

Adesola Akinsanya

President of NiRA
