PRESIDENT’S SPEECH

I warmly welcome you to the third quarter of the year 2022. It was a productive first half for us at NiRA knowing that we have been consistent with increasing public awareness in encouraging the adoption of the .ng brand. We have had interesting media rounds, social media promotions, and outdoor advertising. It has been a rewarding experience, convincing Nigerians to adopt the .ng domain name.

During one of our media rounds on Channels TV, I reiterated that technically the only difference between our local domains and the foreign ones especially the .com is that they have the first-mover advantage. Thereafter, most countries have advanced to adopt their local domains, to increase their data sovereignty and reduce their capital flight. I believe that with the continuous sensitization through the various marketing channels and our dedication towards advancing the digital space in Nigeria, our target of achieving one million active web addresses on the .ng domain name within a few years is attainable.

To grow the economy, we should be patriotic enough to adopt our local online identity. Over the years, we have witnessed an increase in the number of data center operators in Nigeria that are dependable, efficient, resilient, and capable of managing the expected data traffic. As forward-thinking individuals, it is our responsibility to lead a transformation which has the capacity to trigger extensive development.

We will continue to be diligent to improve on our results and surpass expectations. I appreciate the efforts of the committee set up by the National Information Technology Development Agency to ensure the compliance of the .ng adoption for government Ministries, Departments, and Agencies. I celebrate the efforts of our Accredited Registrars and other NiRA stakeholders in supporting and upholding the.NG brand.

Thank you.

Muhammed Rudman President, NiRA.
