Fellow members of the NiRA community, esteemed Board and Board of Trustees, industry stakeholders, partners, and the general public — I extend my deepest appreciation to every one of you for making the celebration of our 20th Anniversary and the 8th .ng Awards truly historic.
Celebrating 20 Years of Nigeria Owning Its Digital Identity
This past month, we gathered to honour two decades of stewarding Nigeria’s digital identity through the .ng domain. Our anniversary celebration and awards night were not just milestones — they reflected the collective spirit, resilience, and innovation that define Nigeria’s digital ecosystem.
Recognizing more than 40 Nigerian digital innovators, pioneers, and contributors reminded us of why this work matters. The 8th .ng Awards and our Lifetime Achievement recognitions honoured individuals whose labour has shaped the digital foundations we stand on today. Their achievements represent the best of Nigeria, and they reaffirm our national commitment to owning our identity online.
Taking the 20th Anniversary to the Streets — The Lagos Community Walk
Another highlight was our Lagos community walk — a vibrant, energetic movement that brought NiRA into the heart of the city. Together, we walked through the streets of Lagos to raise awareness on why every Nigerian must claim and protect their digital identity through the .ng domain.
Our message was clear: In a digital world, identity is power — and Nigeria must own hers.
NiRA at the Senate Public Hearing
This month also marked a significant moment in our national digital journey. NiRA, represented by our COO, Mrs. Oluwaseyi Onasanya, participated in the Senate Public Hearing on the Draft Digital Economy and E-Governance Bill. Our memorandum highlighted critical areas where Nigeria’s digital identity, powered by the .ng domain, must be central to governance, e-services, cybersecurity, and transparency.
Following the hearing, I also had a productive meeting with Senator Shuaib, Chairman of the Senate Committee on ICT. These engagements reinforce a shared understanding:
For Nigeria’s digital future to thrive, stakeholders must collaborate, government, private sector, and institutions alike.
Our engagements this month show that the .ng domain is no longer just a digital address—
it is a national asset. Policies that strengthen its adoption contribute directly to strengthening Nigeria’s digital sovereignty, security, and economic growth.
Continuing the Momentum — December Activities Ahead
As we enter December, the work continues. NiRA will be represented at the 13th Meeting of the National Council on Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy. There, we will continue championing the adoption of .ng across federal, state and local government institutions, and advocating the strategic use of our national digital identifier.
More awareness activities, stakeholder engagements, and advocacy efforts are lined up as we close out the year. Our goal remains unchanged:
to ensure that the .ng domain is recognized and utilized as the critical digital resource it truly is.
Together, We Move Forward
To our members, partners, the media, registrars, innovators, and every Nigerian championing the .ng domain — thank you. Your contributions continue to shape the digital identity of our nation.
As we celebrate how far we have come, let us stay committed to the greater journey ahead.
Nigeria’s digital identity is ours to protect, to grow, and to elevate.
Let us continue to build it together.
