The Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NiRA) convened its 16th Annual General Meeting (AGM) on April 30th, 2024, marking a significant milestone in its ongoing mission to propel the nation’s digital landscape forward. The AGM served as a pivotal platform for the Executive Board of Directors(EBoD), Board of Trustees(BoT), and esteemed members to reflect on the accomplishments of the past year and strategize for the future.
Chaired by the President, Mr. Adesola Akinsanya, the meeting convened with the presence of esteemed members including the Board of Trustees, Executive Board of Directors, former Trustees, NiRA accredited registrars, NiRA members, representatives from the press, and dedicated NiRA staff.
The meeting was presided by the President, Mr. Adesola Akinsanya. In attendance, we had members of the Board of Trustees, Executive Board of Directors, past Trustees, NiRA accredited registrars, NiRA members, the Press and NiRA staff.
In a goodwill message delivered by the Chairperson of the Board of Trustees, Mrs. Ibukun Odusote stated the meeting should serve as a momentous occasion to reflect on NiRA’s achievements, assess its challenges, and chart the progressive course for the future. It was important for all to come together as a community, to share ideas, insights, and experiences, and to reaffirm our shared vision and mission.
In his President’s statement, Mr. Adesola Akinsanya articulated his vision encapsulated in the 3Ps of the winning formula: people, process, and performance. He elucidated how these principles underpinned NiRA’s achievements throughout the 2023 business year.
In his address, President Adesola Akinsanya highlighted a notable accomplishment centred on strengthening registrar relationships. He underscored establishing the registrar relationship manager role, which facilitated direct communication between accredited registrars and the registry, fostering robust, positive, and mutually beneficial partnerships.
Integral to NiRA’s success were various initiatives undertaken in the past year. Notably, impactful activities such as brand awareness campaigns, collaborations, and partnerships with industry associations and stakeholders were instrumental in shaping and enhancing the Nigerian internet ecosystem. The collaborative efforts throughout 2023 yielded tangible results, further solidifying NiRA’s position as a driving force in the nation’s digital landscape.
The AGM concluded on an optimistic note, with attendees expressing confidence in NiRA’s continued growth and impact in the coming year. The event underscored NiRA’s unwavering commitment to innovation, collaboration, and progress, setting the stage for continued growth and advancement in Nigeria’s digital frontier.
