I am delighted to share some exciting updates from NiRA as we continue our efforts to drive the penetration of the .ng domain and contribute significantly to Nigeria’s digital space.
Firstly, I must highlight the recent Online Accredited Registrars Forum held on the 30th of May. This event was a pivotal gathering for our accredited registrars, who are crucial to the success of the .ng domain. They act as the vital bridge between the registry and the registrants, ensuring the smooth operation and widespread adoption of the .ng domain. As President, I began by reaffirming NiRA’s commitment to addressing the needs of our registrars and enhancing our collaborative efforts.
I am thrilled to talk about The .NG Academy’s Street Digital Skills Project. This initiative recently conducted two impactful career talks at Government Technical Colleges in Lagos—specifically at Technical College Ado-soba and Agidingbi. This initiative aims to contribute to digital skill-building in the informal sector, empowering young individuals with the knowledge and tools necessary to thrive in the digital economy. This project underscores our dedication to fostering digital literacy and empowering the next generation of tech leaders.
Additionally, the media has been buzzing with news about the increasing adoption of the .ng domain, a major highlight from the 16th Annual General Meeting held in April 2024. As of February, we proudly recorded 222,820 registrations, highlighting the .ng domain the popular choice for email addresses and domain in Nigeria. This growing trend underscores the domain’s significance and its role in establishing a strong digital identity for businesses and individuals alike.
Additionally, we are currently conducting the .ng brand survey to gauge the awareness and adoption levels of the .ng domain among internet users in Nigeria. I encourage everyone to participate in this survey and share their valuable insights.
As we look ahead, I am confident that NiRA will continue to lead the way in driving innovation, fostering collaboration, and promoting digital advancement in Nigeria. Together, we aim to achieve greater milestones in Nigeria’s digital journey.
Thank you for your continued support and engagement.
Adesola Akinsanya,
President NiRA
